HOW WE DO IT

Starting Material

A few fish cultivated in captivity are used to generate unique cell lines.

Cells

From several fish tissues, different cell types are isolated and cultivated in optimal sustainable conditions.

Growth

The selected cells are grown in bioreactors according to their specific needs and continuously fed with healthy and sustainable ingredients to obtain high biomass volumes.

Scaffolding

Cells are seeded on specific edible structures (scaffolds) so they can differentiate towards specific cell types such as muscle and fat cells.

Development

Cells are harvested, if necessary, further processed, to be ready for human and animal consumption as novel ingredients.

WHY WE DO IT

We bridge the gap between supply and demand

By producing healthy and natural fish ingredients from fish cells we will not only avoid overfishing and habitat destruction, but also reduce greenhouse gasses and halt water pollution to give the ocean and river’s life a better chance of long-term survival. Aquaculture is a good alternative to reduce overfishing but the reduction in the speed of global aquaculture growth from up to 10

percent per year to only 2 percent in 2018 is a major cause for the need for alternative seafood production to cope with the increasing demand. The slowdown in aquaculture growth is compounded by the adoption of broader environmental regulations, reduced availability of water and suitable production locations, increasing outbreaks of aquatic animal diseases and decreasing aquaculture productivity gains.

By producing non-GMO fish cells that only contain healthy nutrients such as highly unsaturated omega 3 (EPA&DHA) without heavy metal and microplastic contaminants, their consumption and benefits become unlimited.

EPA and DHA are well regarded as essential components of a healthy, balanced diet, having many beneficial effects especially during delicate and critical life stages such as infancy, pregnant mothers, and elderly people.
